Large-Scale Engine Manufacturer Project Case Study
Problem: Part of diesel engine performance testing is to analyze engine exhaust. Analysis is performed frequently to prove design improvements and emissions to the federal government for market approval. The engine manufacturer required precise equipment to analyze these emissions. The equipment had to compare certified calibration gasses to known standards while performing the tests. The company’s previous solution included faulty valves, which triggered the certified calibration gas to remain open and deplete quickly. The defect caused a long-term test to fail prematurely, resulting in increased costs for the customer.
Solution: Infinity High Purity Systems installed a high purity, plant-wide gas distribution system that guarantees that the concentration level of the calibration gasses matches the cylinder certification at the point of use. Infinity also built custom point-of-use panels that indicate when a gas is flowing. The panels have visual flow meters that indicate when a valve is stuck open.
Current Status: This gas distribution system has been in production for 16 years. The point of use panels have successfully detected unnecessary gas flows multiple times, which has saved the customer valuable testing time as well as money spent on certified calibration gasses.
